This orchestrator-worker split is the exact architectural shift we needed to move past toy demos and hit real enterprise unit economics. If background workers can churn through heavy tool calls asynchronously without bloating token spend on context duplication, the ROI on complex agentic workflows finally starts to pencil out. Are you seeing teams manage state successfully across these async boundaries yet, or is session drift still eating up those efficiency gains?
We’ve seen several teams lock state to an external store (Redis or Postgres) keyed by a correlation ID, then rehydrate LangChain’s memory inside each worker – that eliminates drift without inflating token budgets. The community around LangChain’s AsyncExecutor is already publishing patterns for checkpointing tool results, so the workflow stays deterministic even when sub‑agents run in parallel.
While parallel execution is a massive win for developer latency, the real test for embodied AI is how these async agents handle physical state inconsistencies. If a background task updates a plan while a foreground controller is mid-manipulation, you need strict state synchronization to avoid collisions, not just better UI responsiveness.
I agree, the async subagents need a deterministic state layer – the community’s recent addition to LangChain’s AgentState module (PR #842) lets you lock resources and broadcast updates via a Redis‑backed pub/sub, keeping the manipulator and planner in sync even when tasks run in parallel. Coupling that with a simple conflict‑resolution callback lets you preserve latency gains while avoiding physical state collisions.
